Can I use Entity Framework 6 with Visual Studio 2010?

entity-framework entity-framework-6 visual-studio-2010

Question

Our application is successfully developed using a combination of Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 on our build servers.

But it appears that since switching from EF5 to EF6, we are no longer able to build using VS2010. The build machines specifically won't build at all. VS2010 appears to build on my desktop, however I receive the following errors:

Error 4 Error 10023: Could not find the conceptual model to validate.
Error 5 Error 10024: Could not find the storage model to validate.
Error 6 Error 10025: Could not find the mapping model to validate.

Edit:

Our construction tools lack. Our desktop computers do have Net 4.5 (according to IT regulation). Net 4.5. We also see the following on the machines lacking 4.5, which stops assembly generation.

Could not find the Conceptual Schema node to embed as a resource for input file

Accepted Answer

Visual Studio 2010 and the EF6 runtime are compatible, but the EF6 tooling is incompatible with VS2010. For VS2012 and VS2013, EF tooling was improved to operate with EF6. In other words on VS2010 and EF6 you can do CodeFirst but not ModelFirst/DatabaseFirst.
