Configure mysql to work with entity framework 6 code first

c# entity-framework mysql

Question

I'm aware that this subject has been posed in a variety of ways in the past, but I was wondering if there might be something about my setup stopping this from functioning.

I'm using MySQL connector 6.8.3 and Mysql for Visual Studio 1.1.3 with Visual Studio 2010 EF 6.

The important configuration file parts I utilized are listed below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

    </DbProviderFactories>
  </system.data>
</configuration>`

And this is my database context code.

[DbConfigurationType(typeof(MySql.Data.Entity.MySqlEFConfiguration))]
public partial class baseballdataContext : DbContext
{
    static baseballdataContext()
    {
        DbConfiguration.SetConfiguration(new MySql.Data.Entity.MySqlEFConfiguration());
        Database.SetInitializer<baseballdataContext>(null);
    }

I have the following issue while attempting to run this.

The 'Instance' member of the Entity Framework provider type 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlClientFactory, MySql.Data, Version=6.8.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d' did not return an object that inherits from 'System.Data.Entity.Core.Common.DbProviderServices'.
Entity Framework providers must inherit from this class and the 'Instance' member must return the singleton instance of the provider. This may be because the provider does not support Entity Framework 6 or later; see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=260882 for more information.

To obtain the code first model, I can reverse engineer the MySQL model using the entity framework toolkit. That appears to be effective.

Could someone please explain what's wrong with my setup?

Popular Answer

  1. Each mysql connection assembly from C:Program Files (x86) should be added. Assembly versions v4.5, MySQL Connector Net 6.8.3, and MySQL
  2. Use the provider configuration listed below, as advised by mysql

    <entityFramework> <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlConnectionFactory, EntityFramework" /> <providers> <provider invariantName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" type="MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlProviderServices, MySql.Data.Entity.EF6" /> </providers> </entityFramework>
