MySQL / MariaDB with DNXCORE 5.0

dapper dnx50 entity-framework mariadb mysql

Question

I'm looking for a solution to support MySQL for a new project that must target Linux and Windows (or MariaDB).

I want to work on DNX Core5.0 since we have to support all those diverse systems. But I can't seem to locate any nuget packages or connectors that I can use to establish a connection to the database. The ones I've found are not compatible with DNX Core 5.0.

In DNX core 5.0, is there a method to connect to MySQL? Or must you revert to using ODBC connections? I'm not sure whether it would be effective.

I was looking for an ORM to assist this further, and so far in my study, I have discovered that

  • MySQL is not currently supported by Entity Framework 7. (and at the moment, EF is not my preferred ORM)
  • NHibernate: No one is currently working on it, and porting it to DNX Core will be challenging (involves breaking changes).
  • Dapper: (I know, MicroORM) Although I require a valid IConnection, which I am unable to construct, this is supporting DNXCore.

I appreciate your comments.

Rob

A few weeks ago, I posed a query along those lines. For DNX Core, there is no MySql connectivity. I had to revert to DNX 4.5.1, however I was still able to utilize MySql and Entity Framework in a Docker-based project. notice the an answer to my query as well.
