Question

The templates of Visual Studio 2010 SP1 and ADO.NET Entity Framework 4.1 are giving me a lot of problems.

I saw that others were having the same issues and I posed similar queries, but I don't believe they provided enough details to make the issue solvable.

The issue: zzzz-13 zzzz

Relevant System Specs

  • SP1 for Visual Studio 2010 Professional
  • Entity Data Model 4.1 for ADO.NET
  • Tools Update for ASP.NET MVC 3
  • SP1 for Windows 7 x64
  • WebMatrix

WebMatrix and Visual Studio 2010 Professional SP1 are both being used to code this.

Popular Answer

Open the VS2010 install media and go to ":WCUEFTools." You will discover two files here:

ADONETEntityFrameworkTools_enu.msi

ADONETEntityFrameworkTools_enu.cab

  1. Transfer the files to a PC folder.
  2. Make a log file with the name "Log.txt" and place it in the folder.
  3. Navigate to the folder containing the msi and cap files by opening a command line (perhaps running it as administrator).
  4. Execute this command:

    /log "Log.txt" ADONETEntityFrameworkTools enu.msi USING EXUIH=1

Be patient; installation will take some time.

"Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 ADO.NET Entity Framework Tools" should now be shown in "Control Panel -> Installed Programs" as the result of the installation.

When adding a new item to a project in Visual Studio, the items template need to be shown. Data > ADO.NET Entity Data Model > Add New Item
