XML Files and Entity Framework

.net c# entity-framework xml

Question

Can someone direct me to a decent tutorial that uses an XML file rather than a database to illustrate the Entity Framework? Although I have seen some excellent lessons for SQL databases, I am unable to transition to an XML file.

Thanks!

Accepted Answer

The Entity Framework itself is designed provider-based and designed to deal with a relational database. It would take a lot of effort, but if you really wanted to, you could create your own EF provider that reads from and writes to xml files.

I anticipate that you need to be considering one of these:

  • LINQ-to-XML
  • (De)serialization of XML
  • XPath/XQuery
  • XSLT

In this situation, Entity Framework does not have a natural fit.

Actually, Linq to XML isn't that complicated. Instead, I would choose a serializable solution.
