How do I convert an access.mdb file into an.edmx model?

.net asp.net-mvc-3 c# entity-framework ms-access

Question

Can you create an entity data model (edmx file) from an MS Access database mdb file? In that case, how? I attempted to use Entity Data Model Wizard, but I was limited to selecting SQL databases.

I need to link my MVC3 website to my mdb-file-based dsatabase.

We would appreciate any assistance.

Accepted Answer

You are correct; I mistakenly thought that OLEDB or ODBC would also be featured instead of only SQL Server and SQL Server Compact. However, if you are performing real work, use SQL Express or SQL Compact instead of the outdated MS Access. Both are free.

If you don't want to pay for SQL connection, you may use the most recent version of SQL Compact (4), which operates also in IIS and with Partial Trust, without any problems from your hosting provider.

such as these numbers: SQL Server Compact 4.0 from Microsoft

Enabled to work in the medium or partial trust environments in the web servers, and can be easily deployed along with the website to the third party website hosting service providers.
