Is Entity Framework causing the SQL Network Interfaces error: 26, but not the connection string?

asp.net-mvc-3 entity-framework instance sql-server

Question

My MVC3/EF4.1 program now works OK on my home PC, however it has a unique problem that only occurs in the production environment (virtual hosting at WinHost.) The error I'm getting is "SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified," which often denotes a problem with the connection string or sometimes indicates that SQLEXPRESS (I'm using SQL 2008 R2) isn't the best option. I've done a lot of searching and attempted to utilize this broad explanation of the mistake as well:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx

I can log in to the production site, and when I intentionally use an incorrect password or anything similar, I get validation errors. This leads me to believe that the database connection string must be valid. Microsoft created the login pages during project launch. But as soon as I go to the pages that I have subsequently created (using EF) and where a database connection is necessary (for instance, an Index page showing records), I see the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Why am I misusing this? Why do you receive this issue if it isn't the connection string, as my assumption would imply? What further information must I submit in order to solve the mystery? I appreciate it.
